Tofu and broccoli stir fry is a healthy dinner we make again and again in the family. A recipe where you can alter as per your dietary considerations, it is a low carb choice meal, naturally vegan if you replace soy sauce with tamari. WHAT IS TOFU & HOW TO COOK IT?
Tofu is prepared by coagulating soy milk and pressing the resulting curds into solid white blocks. Its varies in softness as silken, soft, firm, or extra firm base.
Tofu can be deep fried , pan fried, baked, air fried or scrambled. Season or marinate tofu with your favorite sauce or spices for tastier dish.
For this recipe tofu is pan fried, we will include other methods of cooking in upcoming recipies.
HOW TO COOK CRISPER TOFU?
- Start with a block of extra firm tofu. Squeze as much water as you can without breaking the tofu. This can be done with paper towels or a clean cloth. Begin by slicing tofu in 2 or 3 slices and place them in-between the towel folds.Then cover it with a heavy plate or pan which results to remove the extra moisture. Let sit for 30 mins.
- Cut the tofu into small cubes and coat them with cornflour seasoned with salt and pepper.
- Add about a tablespoon oil to a pan and layer the tofu. Do not over crowd. Turn upside down after 2 minutes and cook on all sides if desired.

TOP TIPS AND VARIATIONS FOR THIS RECIPE
- Replace soy sauce with tamari sauce for a vegan recipe.
- For a keto friendly recipe cut out the flour while pan frying as well the sauce. The sauce doesn’t thicken as much but it doesn’t alter the taste and flavor.
- Skip the flour for a low carb or keto version.
- Broccoli is crunchy in this recipe, cook for an extra minute or two adding extra water for a softer one.
- Alter broccoli to other vegetables as bell peppers , snow peas , carrots mushrooms etc.
- Increase/ decrease ratio of broccoli and tofu as per taste.
- Sesame oil adds extra flavor to the dish replace with your choice of oil.
- This stir fry is on a medium spicy level. Add additional red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce for extra heat.

Sesame Tofu and Broccoli Stir-Fry
Ingredients
For Crispy Tofu
- 1 block Tofu Extra firm
- 2 tbsp Cornflour
- ½ tsp Salt
- ½ tsp Pepper
For Sauce
- ¼ cup Low sodium light soy sauce
- 2 tbsp Rice Vinegar
- 1 tbsp Sri racha or Hot sauce add extra or minus as per spicy levels
- 2 tbsp Cornflour
- 1 tbsp Sesame oil
- ¼ cup Water
For Stir Fry
- 1 tbsp Sesame oil replace any oil if needed
- 1 tbsp Chopped garlic
- 1 tbsp Chopped ginger
- 1 tbsp Red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 whole head Broccoli approx 500 grams florets
- 2 tbsp Roasted Sesame Seeds
- ¼ cup Green spring onions for garnish
- Salt to taste
Instructions
To Fry Tofu
- Drain the excess moisture from the tofu with a kitchen towel and cut into cubes.
- Combine cornflour , salt and pepper in a bowl. coat the tofu cubes with flour.
- Add oil to a pan and layer the tofu cubes and cook on low to medium heat for 2 -3 minutes on each side. Do not cover and cook evenly turning as needed.
Prepare Sauce
- Combine soy sauce , rice vinegar , sesame oil , hot sauce , corn flour and mix. Add water and mix till smooth and not lumpy.
Stir Fry
- Heat a skillet and add oil. Add chopped garlic and ginger.Add broccoli florets and cook for 2-3 minutes stirring occasionally. Add salt and red pepper flakes
- Add the prepared sauce and cook for a 2 minutes on high flame till the sauce thickens,Add fried tofu and toss to mix. Top with sesame seeds and spring onions
