CARROT TURMERIC SMOOTHIE

Carrot  turmeric smoothie is vibrant in color , rich with natural fruits and carrots.This Anti Inflammatory smoothie is made with carrots,pineapple, banana,fresh ginger and ground turmeric. Also called as the Sunshine Smoothie, it is packed with all good to go ingredients.

 

 

This is a lovely and healthy smoothie to make in a breeze. Vibrant in color and tasty with all natural ingredients. Colorful to look with all natural colors from turmeric and carrots.  Naturally sweetened with fruits as pineapple,banana and with inflamatory ingredients as turmeric and ginger.

 

 

WHAT IS TURMERIC AND ITS BENIFITS?

Turmeric is a root called Curcuma, a spice orginated in India and used widely in Indian cooking. Almost every recipe on this blog uses turmeric. 

 

Turmeric powder has a warm, bitter, black pepper like flavor and earthy, mustard like aroma. The golden yellow color of turmeric is due to curcumin. It’s a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant and may also help improve symptoms of depression and arthritis or even inflammatory skin conditions including acne and psoriasis. 

 

Ginger is a root that contains gingerol, The unique fragrance and flavor of ginger come from its natural oils.It has powerful medicinal properties that improves digestion, helps with sore throat, soothes nausea, helps with osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis as per reports.

INGREDIENTS USED FOR THIS SMOOTHIE

 

  • Carrots : Carrots are healthy and available year long, abundant with carotene that converts to Vitamin A which is good for vision.
  • Pineapple : Pineapple has lot of nutrients and sweetens the smoothie naturally. Use fresh or frozen pineapple, If using fresh pineapple freeze it to avoid using ice cubes in the smoothie.
  • Banana : A only fruit available fresh all year and has lots of nutrients and minerals. Freeze banana slices to avoid using ice cubes.
  • Turmeric : Grounded turmeric powder, start with little if using first time.
  • Ginger : Ginger gives a zingy flavor to the smoothie, skip if you do not like the taste. Or start with very little increase you as per your taste.
  • Almond Milk : Adds a nutty and creamy flavor to the recipe. Use regular milk or filtered water to substitute.

HOW TO MAKE THIS SMOOTHIE?

  1. Wash and peel carrots. Cut carrots, pineapple and banana into small pieces. This makes it easier while blending.
  2. Add carrots, pineapple, banana, turmeric, ginger, banana, milk to a blender.

  3. Blend for 3 to 4 minutes till smooth and creamy.

  4. Add additional milk/water or ice for a thinner texture.

This smoothie is naturally sweetened, as carrots, pineapple and banana are sweet it doesn’t require any added sweeteners.

 

Taste and if you need extra sweetner a spoonful of honey should serve the need.

Turmeric and ginger are the two ingredients that makes this smoothie anti inflammatory. They both have a specific taste. If not used to the taste of both, start with half the quantites till your taste pallette gets used to and increase as needed.

 

Go wild with the chioce of fruits to make this smoothie. Add few pieces of mango, an orange or even a slice grapefruit.

 

For a hot summer day i added a few frozen mango, an orange , few extra pieces of pineapples and ice and it turned out to be fruit slushie. A much more exciting chioce for kids with fresh fruits and carrots.

TOP TIPS TO MAKE THIS SMOOTHIE

  1. If you are trying turmeric and ginger in smoothies for the first time, use little and increase your way as you get used to the taste.
  2. If using frozen fruits skip ice. Add ice only if using fresh fruits.
  3. This smoothie is sweet from the fruits and carrots. Turmeric and ginger adds that zingy flavor to the smoothie.
  4. Substitute milk with plain filtered water if you do not like milk.
  5. To make it more kid friendly add fruits like mangoes and oranges. Go wild with the chioce of fruits.
  6. Add honey to make it more sweeter.

Ingredients

  • 2.5 Oz Carrots
  • 6 Oz Pineapple
  • 1 small Banana
  • ½ inch ginger optional
  • ½ tsp Turmeric
  • 1 cup Almond Milk/ Skim Milk / Water

Instructions

  • Add chopped carrots, pineapple chunks, chopped banana, chopped ginger, milk/water, turmeric in a blender and blend for 2- 3 minutes till very smooth.
  • Add ice or more water as per consistency and enjoy immedietly.

Notes

Freeze the fruits to skip using ice.
